Getting here & around
Where are you?
We are on Huron Road in Red Bay, a short walk down the driveway from Lake Huron. The address and map are here: 462 Huron Road, South Bruce Peninsula, ON N0H 2T0.
How far is Tobermory, the Grotto or Lion's Head?
The map gives the distance and drive time to each place: Google Maps.
Is there parking?
Yes, parking is free in front of the lodge. Cabin guests park across the lane from the cabins, and we will show you the way.
Can I park a trailer or an ATV?
ATV parking is no problem. We have no overnight spots for trailers, so there are no campsites.
Where's the nearest gas?
There is no gas in Red Bay, so fill up before you come. The closest is Pike Bay, but it is north of us and off the beaten path. The most convenient are the Sauble Falls Esso and the Ferndale Fast Stop, and the Hepworth Fast Stop and Beach Gas are also good options nearby.
I left something in my cabin.
Sorry about that. Tell us what it was and when you stayed, and we will check and call you back.
Where can I buy ice or snacks?
The Red Bay Camp Store, a few doors south, sells convenience items and ice. Full groceries are in Wiarton or Sauble Beach.
How far is Red Bay Lodge from Tobermory?

Exploring
Where's the beach?
It is a short walk down the driveway to the water. Red Bay Beach is a short walk too.
Is Red Bay Beach sandy? Can we swim?
Red Bay Beach has sand, shallow water and a pier that reaches into the lake, a short walk from the lodge.
Can we rent canoes or kayaks?
We do not rent them. Sauble River Marina is our suggestion for canoes and kayaks. For fishing, try the dock at Howdenvale or the bridge at Sky Lake.
Will we see the northern lights?
We let guests know when the northern lights look likely, but we cannot promise them.
Any bears or mosquitoes?
Bears are in the area but rarely seen, so keep food inside. We have bug spray on site.
Where are good trails or lookouts?
Malcolm Bluff, Skinner's Bluff, Lion's Head Lookout and Sauble Falls are popular. More are listed here: redbaylodge.com/fun.
Do I need to book the Grotto or a boat tour?
In summer it is best to reserve Grotto parking ahead. Boat tours to Flowerpot Island leave from Tobermory, and we are happy to help arrange one, so give us a call. Distances are on the map: Google Maps.
Can we see the stars or the northern lights from the lodge?
The Red Bay Beach pier is the spot guests use for the stars and the aurora. We let guests know when the lights look likely, but we cannot promise them.
Where is the best sunset?
The Red Bay Beach pier. Sunsets over Lake Huron are the real thing; ask us for tonight's sunset time.
Is there mountain biking nearby?
The Albemarle Track is just across Highway 6, with more trails near Miller Lake. The best terrain is on the Georgian Bay side.
When is the best time to see the northern lights?
It follows space weather rather than the calendar, so it is never promised. The alert email on our northern lights page is the best way to know when a night looks good.
Is it really dark there at night?
Yes. We are in the woods with next to no light pollution, and the peninsula has internationally recognized dark sky preserves.
Is the national park busy in summer?
It can be. The park is quieter in fall, spring and winter, so ask us about dates outside the summer.
Not here? Ask us.
